Roof Replacement
For roof replacement, the process is a bit more involved than a repair, as it usually entails completely removing the old roof and installing a brand-new one. Here’s a breakdown of the typical roof replacement service:
1. Inspection and Assessment:
Before any replacement begins, a roofing professional will thoroughly inspect the roof’s structure and condition. This includes checking for damage not just to the shingles, but also to the decking and supporting structures, which might need repair or replacement.
2. Material Selection:
Choosing the right roofing material is a key part of the process. Common options include:
Asphalt Shingles: Affordable and commonly used.
Metal Roofing: Durable, energy-efficient, and long-lasting.
Wood Shingles or Shakes: Aesthetic, but require maintenance.
Tile or Slate: Durable, but heavier and more expensive.
Flat Roof Systems: Common for commercial buildings or modern homes. The type of material chosen will affect the cost, durability, and appearance of your new roof.
3. Removal of Old Roof:
The old roofing material is stripped off to expose the underlying structure (decking). This step can be time-consuming and may also uncover any hidden issues like water damage or rotting wood that may need to be fixed.
4. Decking and Underlayment Inspection/Repair:
Once the old roofing material is removed, the decking (the boards under the shingles) is inspected. If any areas are damaged or weakened, they’ll be replaced. A new underlayment (a protective layer that goes between the decking and the shingles) is then installed to provide extra waterproofing.
5. New Roof Installation:
This is where the new roofing material is installed. It usually starts with the underlayment, followed by the shingles or other roofing materials. The process involves carefully aligning and securing each layer to ensure the roof is water-tight and properly ventilated.
6. Flashing and Ventilation:
Flashing (the metal strips around chimneys, vents, and other roof penetrations) is replaced to ensure water can’t seep in through these critical points. Additionally, proper ventilation is important for preventing mold and moisture buildup in the attic, so any necessary ventilation systems (like ridge vents) are installed.
7. Cleanup and Final Inspection:
Once the new roof is installed, the work area is thoroughly cleaned up. This includes removing any leftover debris and inspecting the roof to ensure everything is sealed and installed properly. Many contractors also offer warranties on the new roof and may provide a final inspection a few months later.
8. Post-Installation Maintenance Tips:
To prolong the life of the new roof, you may be given advice on how to maintain it, including regular inspections, cleaning, and keeping gutters clear.

Roof replacement is a big investment, but it's a good opportunity to upgrade to higher-quality materials or improve your roof’s efficiency. Do you have a specific type of roof or material you’re interested in, or are you just exploring your options?
